When you catch the bug to redecorate your home, it’s hard to shake, and the sticker shock can be real! So, what are the best things to prioritize when it comes to a spring project? We are glad you asked! Consider the things that will get you the biggest bang for your buck when it comes to redecorating!
1. LET’S TALK LIGHTS
Many times there are home elements that just need to be updated and replaced instead of worked around. Light fixtures fall into this category. Light fixtures are the focal point of the room. By swapping these out with something fun, fresh, and updated, you can instantly change the style of your home! If you don’t have the budget to do it all, start with your entry and dining light fixtures and go from there. These are the first things guests will see, which determines what your home communicates. This is important: you are not bound by the chandelier finish that your home came with (phew, glad we got that covered). Consider swapping out shiny gold for matte gold and oil-rubbed bronze for matte black for a fresh, updated look!
2. BUILDER GRADE TO CUSTOM GRADE
Nothing dates your kitchen and bathrooms more than old-fashioned, worn handle pulls and knobs. One of the quickest ways to allow your kitchen to go from a builder-grade look to a custom look is to add or update hardware. This cost-efficient update will go a long way and is very helpful when it comes to reselling your home. When choosing hardware finishes, there are no hard and fast rules. You don’t have to select something that matches your appliances (gasp!). Mixing metals is ok in this space as long as all of your cabinet hardware matches and you incorporate the finish elsewhere (a light fixture, some decorative items, sink faucet, etc.). A kitchen is the heart of the home and should reflect your personality. Have fun!
3. WHEN IN DOUBT, PAINT
A fresh coat of paint can go a long way! Paint is not only a great way to update your space into something that reflects your style, but a good neutral, fresh color can also boost your sale price if you decide to sell. Don’t know where to start? Consider painting your ceilings white to open up your space. A fun, calming color can be a great addition to a smaller, more overlooked space like a powder bath or laundry room. The front door almost always needs a fresh coat of paint! Consider a deeper, bolder hue like black or a deep, rich charcoal for a crisp first impression on guests.
4. REARRANGE
Rearranging your furniture and artwork can make you fall in love with your pieces all over again! Sometimes we just get bored with what we have, when in reality we just need a fresh take on the old things. Try a new furniture arrangement in your living room to open up the space or make the focal point the fireplace instead of the tv. Swap your artwork and decor out in new places. When you install your favorite artwork in a new place, like over the mantle instead of the entry, it actually allows your brains to reregister the colors and movement in a new, appreciative way! Without spending more money. It’s a win-win!
